Today in Sports: 4/13/17 Preview

NBA:

With the NBA regular season concluding yesterday and the playoffs starting Saturday, we’ll have to suffer through two days without NBA basketball.

NHL:

Toronto Maple Leafs at Washington Capitals: The Maple Leafs and Capitals will do battle in the first game of their first round playoff matchup. The Washington Capitals are the top seed in the Eastern Conference and will be heavy favorites against the Maple Leafs. Toronto snuck into the playoffs as the eighth and final seed in the Eastern Conference, but they have enough talent to make this series competitive.

Nashville Predators at Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks and Predators will face-off in the first game of their first round playoff series. As the top seed in the Western Conference, the Blackhawks look poised to make another postseason run. After winning the Stanley Cup in 2013 and 2015, it seems like they should win the title again this year. The Predators are the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference. They’ll be heavy underdogs, but they should have enough firepower to win at least one game in the series.

Calgary Flames at Anaheim Ducks: The Flames and Ducks play tonight in the first game of their first round playoff series. Although both the Ducks and Flames had good regular seasons, the Ducks are the heavy favorites in this matchup. The Ducks are the more talented team and should win the series if they play up to their potential. Anaheim was one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the last month of the regular season, and should be able to use that momentum to propel themselves into a long postseason run.
