Washington Capitals defeat Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 (OT): In the best game of the night, the Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first game of their first round playoff matchup. The final goal was scored by Tom Wilson just 5 minutes and 15 seconds into the first overtime period. The Maple Leafs started fast with two goals within the first ten minutes of the first period. The Capitals’ Justin Williams would score the last two goals in regulation to send the game to overtime. The Maple Leafs and Capitals will play game two on Saturday in Washington.

Nashville Predators defeat Chicago Blackhawks 1-0: The Nashville Predators pulled the upset in game one of this first round series against the Chicago Blackhawks. The lone goal was scored by Viktor Arvidsson less than ten minutes into the first period. The Blackhawks put more shots on goal than the Predators, but they were not able to get the puck past Pekka Rinne. Rinne had 29 saves in this stunning upset in Chicago. The Predators and Blackhawks will play game two on Saturday in Chicago.

Anaheim Ducks defeat Calgary Flames 3-2: The Anaheim Ducks won the first game of this series at home against the Calgary Flames. Ryan Getzlaf scored the first goal for Anaheim less than a minute into the first period. Calgary would answer with the next two goals scored by Sean Monahan and Sam Bennett, respectively. The Ducks would clinch the victory with the next two goals scored by Rickard Rakell and Jakob Silfverberg. These two teams will meet again for the second game of the series on Saturday in Anaheim.
