Today in Sports: 4/14/17 Review

NHL:

Montreal Canadiens defeat New York Rangers 4-3 (OT): The Montreal Canadiens won game two to even the series at home against the New York Rangers. The Canadiens got off to an early start with a goal in the first five minutes of the first period. The Rangers and Canadiens would each score once more before the second period. The Rangers would take a 3-2 lead by scoring twice in the second period. The Canadiens looked like they were in major trouble before Tomas Plekanec would score the tying goal with 18 seconds left in the third period. Alexander Radulov would score the game winning goal late in the first overtime period to clinch the victory. Game three will be played on Sunday in New York.

Pittsburgh Penguins defeat Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1: The Pittsburgh Penguins were able to take a commanding 2-0 series lead with a home victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Penguins scored the first goal when superstar Sidney Crosby got the puck past Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. The Blue Jackets would tie the score in the second period, but the Penguins would once again take the lead just 51 seconds after the Blue Jackets lone goal. The Penguins would tack on two more goals in the third period. This series heads to Columbus with game three being played on Sunday.

St. Louis Blues defeat Minnesota Wild 2-1: The St. Louis Blues were able to take a commanding 2-0 series lead with another road victory against the Minnesota Wild. Both teams scored a goal in the first period, and didn’t score in the second period. The Blues were able to score the game winning goal late in the third period when Jaden Schwartz was able to get his shot past Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk. Game three will be played on Sunday in St. Louis.

Edmonton Oilers defeat San Jose Sharks 2-0: The Edmonton Oilers won the second game of the series against the San Jose Sharks. They were able to tie the series before heading on the road to San Jose. Losing this game would’ve been catastrophic for Edmonton, so having goalie Cam Talbot produce a shutout was crucial. The Oilers would score first in the first minute of the second period. They would tack on an insurance goal halfway through the third period. These teams will play game three on Sunday.
